The prejudice can exist, but I've found that it's a whole lot more welcoming in the USA for Indians than the UK for Indians. The history of wars and colonization tend to create more hostility in the UK than in America, where we've been more neutrally disposed towards India.

Americans tend to think of Indians as exotic curiosities more than as dangerous foreigners; you'd probably encounter more prejudice if people mistook you for a Latino or a black man, than if they knew you were from India.

If I were in India, I'd get out too. It does not seem like a good place to be male these days.

On one hand America is everybody, and we're all immigrants. My ancestors are Irish and weren't considered white and were persecuted, etc. On the other hand some Americans are ignorant and will never accept you. In most cities Indians are recognized to be pretty chill. And again, some people will confuse Sikhs with Arabs and Persians.

Listen being American is not about your skin color, nor your religious beliefs, and most definitely not about where you were born. The values of liberty, and Freedom are core to what makes this country the greatest in the world. To live and let live, its about the pursuit of happiness.

Unfortunately the SJWs who run this world are total hypocrites. They say they believe in being open minded and accepting and that they hate labels, but they achieve their acceptance and open-mindedness by assigning labels to everything. So labels play a huge part in everything there.

You'll never escape predjudice but, talking with other Indian men who immigrated here, they are far happier in the states thwn back home. One man in particular I talked to is working as an engineer here in Georgia and he sends money home to India with his wife and children. He gets paid FAR more in the US than he would have in India and claims that so many engineers and mathematicians move to the US from India, that it's causing a "brain drain" back home. He joked that he's perfectly fine with his family staying in India because it is very peaceful in his apartment and all his neighbors are really nice.

As a general rule, you're going to find the worst humanity has to offer on the internet. If you go to the Southern United States, we tend to have that "Southern Hospitality" that the north lacks (well, I'm biased. I was born and raised in the South), but you will always run into an asshole that ruins the bunch..

I'm Indian and was born in Fiji. Moved to Australia when I was very young. Never been to India in my entire life, never want to go there, have no interest in anything related to that country or its many cultures.

I have an Australian accent and culturally, I'm Australian. Hell, even says "Australian" on my passport and when people who know me look at me, they see another Australian and not an Indian.

For me, it's extremely rare to meet someone who can't fathom that I'm Australian and not Indian. Everyone accepts me as an Australian just as much as they accept a Chinese guy we know who has a strong Chinese accent but was born in this country.

I can't speak for the USA, but from where I sit, there are plenty of reasonable people down here who accept people from many different cultural backgrounds just as long as the national culture is respected.

And that's the key, the national culture is important because the many different peoples of Australia have a unique identity that, to 99% of Australians, isn't bound specifically to a certain ethnicity.

Ironically, in the last few years, it's not the "racists" who have been quick to make a distinction between me being Australian and Indian, it seems to be coming more from the extreme left who are obsessed with identity politics.

Me being Indian seems to be a strong issue with them in terms of me specifically distinguishing my "Indian heritage" and trying to get me to be proud of something I don't give a fuck about and is totally alien to me.

It's fucking amazing how I'm being hounded by the supposed "non-racist" people while the supposed "racists" leave me the fuck alone and go about their business.

The rest who are in the middle simply see me as just another Australian.

You speak of bigotry. Of stupidity. Well I've got some sad news for you - the country you are currently moving to is full of that. In fact, I don't think there is a single place on earth where you will be free of such things.

That said, the only thing you can do is learn how to cope with such an environment. The stupidity and bigotry are always going to be there. Your job is to make sure it doesn't get to you. Keep your head up, but make sure you don't become a hypocritical bigot in the process.
