this is because not only do they play with angles and lighting and filters, there are also apps that digitally alter pics even beyond traditional IG filters. look at facetune for example.

i've met multiple IG models who look like 9s and 10s in their pics but are MAYBE 6s in real life. the crazy part is how you find out she's an IG model... you meet her in some random bar and she hits on you, and then in conversation she "casually" drops how many IG followers she has. you eventually check it out and she has tens of thousands of followers but her pics don't look like her in real life.
