I'm considering buying a grandfather clock for my living room set that I just dropped $5k on. I'm very single and the payoff is that I'm buying these things at this point of my life with no regard to how it will effect my finances. In fact, I will still have safely over 5 figures in my checking account. My FICO score is 2 points below the max. I get to retire from the military in about a year and a half at the age of 43 and begin the second half of my life. Being alone is not all gumdrops and lollypops but the financial autonomy alone makes for relatively stress free living.
