The school has a dress code. The kid didn't follow it. Case closed. No special privilege for precious Jabez. He's a male afterall, no matter how badly you want him to be a female. hahahaha

I'm going to take issue here.

In Iron John, author Robert Bly explains the mythological significance of hair. Hair represents wildness, and the savage side of masculinity. Modern society wants tame, emasculated men. Part of the strategy for accomplishing that is through forced compliance with a litany of meaningless rules including hair length. The school district's dress code isn't there to maintain a "rigorous educational environment of high expectations for (local residents') children." It's their to force those children to learn unquestioning obedience to arbitrary authority.

Now, I don't think for a minute that this single mom's fight for her child's right to keep his uncut hair has anything to do with our ancient collective mythos regarding masculinity. I'm sure she's an entitled snowflake who's raising her boy to be a snowflake too. But, as the saying goes, a broken clock is right twice a day. Her resistance of arbitrary rules and obedience might come from the wrong motivations, but I think it is correct to resist those rules nonetheless.

I don't get what this has to do with her being a single mother. I had an amazing dad who played the biggest role in my upbringing, and I've had long hair my entire life. I'd be pissed, too, if I went to a school that tried to make me cut it
