About 6 months ago I got an after hours job running a couple of freshman (first year) University tutorials (Psychology) for a bit of extra cash.

I'm 27 and fairly confident so I didn't mind dating a few of the female students once Semester was over (College Policy).

I started seeing this one girl - we went out for a beer and she identified her embodiment with Feminism fairly quickly (no surprise) and outlined her aims to specialise in Feminist Psychology postgrad. Tbh I didn't care, I divorced myself of that shit as it didn't affect my short-term aims with her, she was gorgeous and I knew she liked me so I just said 'cool' - we fucked and all was well.

I picked her up a week later and drove ourselves to the beach - it was a warm day, the car windows were down and we were laughing and having an easy time; she looked sexy as fuck in her tight swimwear and I felt I may needn't even wait until home for a repeat of last week's experience. I had Rock FM on the radio and as expected the obligatory CCR song came across the airwaves - Fortunate Son.

I started singing and humming along until this nasty, piercing voice destroyed my flow.

'I HATE this Band - they're such a bunch of asshole Misogynists.'

I pulled over.

'What?' I replied. CCR - a classic, easy-listening and all time American rock band from the late 60's/early 70's were apparently a bunch of women-hating misogynists.

'Creedence Clearwater Revolution (yep) - none of their songs are about Love or Women, they just sing about War and the end of the World and all that Bayou shit, real Male bands are romantic and always incorporate ballads. Tell me any Band you like with Male singers that don't sing about Women.

I thought about it, and she was right. I enjoy a wide range of music across different platforms and era's; Rock, Country, Rap, Electro, Folk - and just about every band/artist I liked one way or another sang about women in one context or another.

But not CCR - the lead singer, John Fogarty, was lost in the personal tragedies and romances of the Male experience in 60's Americana - the down and out Country singer stuck in a town (Lodi), the fallacies of class-drafting in Nam (Fortunate Son, Who'll Stop the Rain), escaping urban Capitalism to a simpler, Nature based lifestyle on the Bayou (Proud Mary) and (Green River) and a great deal of other Masculine themes including searching, fighting and existential survivalism. Fogarty's voice was the very embodiment of pure Masculine energy, a 23 year old White male wailing with the force of a 100 Black Blues musicians. The only songs about women tended to be Covers or were so obscure you couldn't be sure if he was talking about a female.

My Dad loved their music, my Grandad loved their music, hell just about every Man in the Western World loved their music and once you've explored past the 3-minute catalog of singles spanked out by mainstream radio you come to understand Fogarty's esoteric search for the Masculine Spirit.

But not this chick - this 23 year old White chick who'd grown up with Spice Girls, Pink, Gwen Stefani, Beyonce and Lady GaGa found Creedence Clearwater Revival the most offensive thing since the discovery of microagressions.

Pop-radio has been clunked up with female-dominated sparkle candy for so long that third-wave Feminism has to reach way back into the 60's to exploit any form of pro-Malehood philosophy it can get it hands on.

Back to the car idling on the side of the highway - blinkers on, mouth agape, mind formulating a buttload of retorts and arguments to put this entitled little brat in her place and defend my Grandfather's generation's honor, until...

'and you know who else was a FUCKING MISOGYNIST PRICK? That Bob Dylan'.

I paused, burst into laughter, and realized this was a lost cause.

I pulled back onto the Highway, took her to the Beach and fucked her anyway.
