Been a subscriber for a year. Have made a few threads here and there. Work full time in retail, and am an Army Officer on the side (putting this out there, because I've seen how women have infected Combat Arms, too)

Closing time tonight at my store. I, the manager on duty, am told there isn't a parking lot attendant (employees who gather carts and assist shoppers with packing their vehicles if they buy heavy merchandise) to close for the night. So, I tell the closing Cashier Supervisor that the front end (where the check out registers are, the same workgroup that owns the parking lot and has parking lot attendants) will be responsible to gather carts and return them to the cart bay by the entrance. The supervisor does her job, notifies the Cashiers (ALL female, btw) that their register cash drawers won't be counted until all carts are gathered and collected for the night.

8:30 goes by. We close the store.

8:45 goes by. I'm standing by the entrance with crossed arms waiting for the carts to be gathered. I see a group of Cashiers sitting around, and a few standing by the supervisor's podium, having an argument. I walk over.

me: "So, we all understand that nobody's leaving until all the carts are gathered, correct?"

Supervisor: "You heard him, I'm not counting your cash drawer until you go collect carts"

Cashier 1: "I'm a Cashier. I don't work outside"

Cashier 2: "Heyyyy, that's not my job"

me: "Oh, is that right? Can you show me where in your Job duties and description that is says you are strictly a Cashier? ...pause..Oh you can't, because it's not in there. Go collect carts please so you, and I, can go home"

Cashier 1: "It be cohhd outsyyyde" (because she's ghetto and stupid, like a good many cashiers are)

me: (looking confused) "Okay. And? We have people working outside. We have people working in the meat room and in the freezer. You're wasting time. Go collect carts, or stay here all night. I've got the keys, so I'll wait"

Cashier 2: "I'm not a man, and that's a job for guys. I'm just a Cashier"

me: "Gee, where in your job description does it say that being a Cashier excludes you from gathering carts based on your Gender? Here's a hint: It doesn't. This is an equal opportunity company. I'm providing your gender the equal opportunity to work just as hard as the "guys" by going to collect carts. Unless you have a "reasonable accommodation" via medical profile, you're going to go collect carts, or you can clean out your locker and not come back tomorrow"

Supervisor: "There ain't no such thing as a "man's job" here. All of you get up, go get the carts and quit wasting time before I write all of you up"

So I watch for 30 minutes with my arms crossed in the entrance doorway as all these troglodyte pigs actually did some "man's work" for once.

I'll probably be "called in on the carpet" tomorrow, but what do I care? I've got company doctrine on my side, and the Supervisor backed me up. (she's a female too, btw)
