I have been married to my husband for almost 4 years and together 8. He is a great person. He is loyal, attractive, funny, hardworking, and a great dad to our two children. He supports me in everything I do and loves me.

We had wildly different upbringings; he grew up wealthy with married parents and never knew struggles beyond minor issues. I grew up in abusive, chaotic dysfunction. My parents were divorced, addicted to alcohol and hard drugs, and I was abused physically, mentally, and emotionally.

When my husband and I started dating, I was in the depth of a downward spiral. I was stealing from my employer, using narcotics, smoking pot and drinking constantly. I was getting high before and during work. My husband and I started hanging out, enjoyed partying together, and fell into a fun, young love. I got pregnant a year later and stopped everything cold turkey.

Fast forward to now. We ended up having two children, and getting married. Life is great; we have good jobs, healthy children, and things are good.

Except they're not. Lately, and I mean the last 6 months, I've been obsessing over separating him. I have been struggling for the last 10 years with depression and anxiety and it has taken a horrible turn for the worse. I am medicated for these issues and about 5 months ago had my doses increased. I am struggling with this concept: I have never been alone. I have never taken care of myself. I am currently spread thin across school, work, and an internship and I have lost my identity. I realized I never had a chance in my drugged out stupor to work on myself, my trust issues, my anxiety, and my depression. I get insane waves of rage and begin to hold those I love in contempt.

I have always been a loner and recently, I've been struggling with sharing myself with my family. I cannot do anything without a touch of guilt attached. Gym? Guilty. Need sleep? Guilty. Spend money on antidepressants or see a counselor? Guilty. I have never worked on me. At this time, I know in my heart and soul that if I could just GET AWAY from everybody in my family I could work on my issues and be a better wife and mother. As it stands now, I cannot wait to get away from them. I do not want my husband bothering me and I do not want my kids climbing on me. Them being too close to me is enough to trigger a full blown panic attack.

Of course, this would destroy my husband. He has never done anything wrong. As it stands now, I have been doubting the very foundation we fell in love on; I was high and drunk, we partied constantly, and now we have a great life together but I feel as though I have been sucked into it and wasn't ready.

I do not know what to do. I do not want a divorce but I do not want to be around him and need a huge distance in order to work on my issues and be a better wife and mother. Any help or advise would be so appreciated. Thank you!

Stuff like this has always been going on. In the old days you had to take a trip to family court to know about it or hear horror stories from men you knew. With the advent of social media and the internet any man that reproduces or gets married I do not feel sorry for. Unless you can afford alimony or child support you don't do it. I'm going to go against the grain here. 8 years and two kids is a pretty successful reproductive cycle. this is usually the part where women seek a new partner to diversify their gene pool and give a better chance for survival. lasting 8 years is a pretty good run. people need to accept that relationships aren't lifelong but they are biologically long enough to bring kids to a functional age.

I was upset that my gf left me and it had only been 7 months and the sex hadn't dried up at all. we could have had a few more years. if we ended after 3 or 4 years it would have made more sense to me. familiarity grows contempt and attraction dies after a while. not really anyone's fault. my gf was on anti depressants like this woman too though. I wonder if there's a correlation. I feel like anti depressants and a romantic relationship don't go together
