What the fuck. I understand asking her permission to dip into joint savings for say, a fancy car, but this is stupid. Both people should have personal savings which they can spend whatever they want and how they want. For example, 50% of each person's paycheque goes to expenses. 30% goes to joint savings and 20% goes to personal savings.

If the wife makes less, she contributes less to expenses, but also gets less personal spending. If she is a student with zero job, she gets zero spending or 'owes the joint savings' after she graduates. The overall unit should only have expenses to roughly 50-60% of joint income. If it isn't, lower your lifestyle.

Funny reading these comments, seems like most of you "Men" have never been in a relationship, worked with a partner towards a financial goal, let alone who is bringing in the money and paying the bills.

When you grow up and start your life with someone, married or moved in and engaged or whatnot, you have this thing called responsibility. Most of that falls under Finances. Which means bills need paid and saving for expenses.

So ya, bash the guy for talking to his wife asking to spend $400-$600 on a game system, games, etc. When, did you stop to think that maybe they are trying to save money? Maybe a kid, new car, vacation?

Oh no, you just assume the man is being weak.

Get your head out of your asses and think! Sometimes it's not all about you! You have no idea what this man is going thru, you are not him nor do you have his life. You can bash all you want, but it would seem that a large majority of you, have not been in a relationship and if you have, it was short lived.
