There was that season one TNG episode where Riker got held on that planet where men were second class citizens and only women were allowed to be in government.

Shitty episode, as almost all of TNG's first year was, but a concept that was ahead of it's time.

Worse than they do now. Start Trek is a post scarcity society for the most part. The only thing to compete for is status. Except for the 1% or the 1% that make up start fleet, the rest of the adults will never want for anything except, status. Just like high school one big popularity contest
