Keep in mind that from an evolution point of view, there are huge costs to a man if the woman cheats, and little to no consequences to the woman if the man cheats. There is no maternity uncertainty, only paternity uncertainty.

Men are the guardians of commitment, women are the guardians of sex. A man having sex outside of a relationship does not necessarily signal an end to provisioning and protection, or even a lack of commitment per se. It does demonstrate that he is of high value, so this should actually make his sperm more desirable.

A woman having sex outside the relationship signals that her very limited reproductive capability may be given to another. It means the man may expend his resources on some other dude's offspring, and loose his chance to breed. Men look askance at this.

But wait, you say. What if everyone is on the pill and there is no desire for children? While that may be, the instinctive concerns and reactions outlined above are still wired in and still apply. It will take millennia for us to shed that programming, if in fact we ever do.

Studies have shown that women are more tolerant of infidelity than men; this is why.

Yeah but in my experience it's not worth the drama. Once you are cheating on a girl and she knows you gotta sleep with one eye open. You never know when or how she will strike back.

Better to just be upfront about your needs/relationship setup so that there are no surprises/drama. You also get peace of mind this way.

I lived this for 5 years. LTR with a girl, cheated on her right out of the gate, she broke up with me for a week.

She came back, repeat every few months for 5 years. It got to the point where she would tell me who I was going to sleep with before I even realized it. Then I'd do it.

This is true in many cases, but there is some fine granularity to it.

For a given high-value man, some women will double down on keeping him if other lovers are discovered.

Other women thrive in poly relationships on a dont ask, don't tell basis. They'll tacitly go along with the situation as long as plausible deniability can be maintained, but if it gets in their face they will bounce.

This happened to me once, where my main GF of many years drove up to find a (throwaway) plate in my car. She broke up with me on the spot, never to speak to me again; I proceeded to spend the day with the plate as planned. I'm not happy to have alpha-widowed this woman; this is an occupational hazard of asymmetric polyamory.

My first ever live in girlfriend cheated on me with a woman that I had previously slept with a few times before the relationship. I got pissed at her, and slept with the same woman. The gf found out, and her reaction? Threw me on the bed and fucked me hard. I said we should break up since we were both cheating, and she fought hard to stay with me.

She ended up cheating on me with a few other people afterwards, and I dumped her for many reasons.

I was arguing about this with my friend recently. I've observed that women are far more tolerating of cheating, given that the man is alpha, than the opposite. Yeah there are plenty of betas out there knowingly getting cucked, but women are far more comfortable sharing a man.

Maybe someone versed in divorce law can comment, but if your wife decides to stay with you post affair, are you just hamstringed the rest of the time you are with her? Would you be walking on eggshells hoping she won't take you to the cleaners? Or is there a statute of limitations of sorts when it comes to adultery?

Deep in our primordial brains we are driven by procreation, and the woman knows that the baby is hers while the man must have faith. Thus it benefits the woman to have the highest value man she can knock her up....so long as there is no threat to her access to resources he can provide, because getting knocked up and then dumped by the side of the road, later is a bad outcome, particularly the way our brains think of it, because, back in the day, that landed you on the dinner plate of a Sabertooth.

This also explains why women are more threatened by "emotional affairs" regardless of whether there's any sex, whereas men are more threatened by their girl getting banged, whereas they can hang out with their gay male friends all day, every day, as far as we're concerned, until it's hammerin' time.
