It's not enough to just be comfortable with their decision to not shave their armpits, they need all of society to enthusiastically support and agree with that decision or they won't feel comfortable with it.

My ex-wife did this kind of shit. Not growing her armpit hair (gross) and she kept her box shaved all the time. But she would change her hair radical colors and even shaved her head completely once.

When i made a comment about her looking like a concentration camp resident, she tried coming back with the "it's my body and i'll do with it what i want." to which i said, "You're right, you can look like a lesbian if you want to, but just because you do this to yourself doesn't mean i have to like it. And when you get comments from people in public, don't be surprised."

She immediately started the quest to grow her hair back out but "it was [her] choice."
