You just indicate that while she's away with her boyfriend, all you do is think about her. ("Wow so all this while, I've almost forgetten about this guy but all he's been doing is think about me"). When they realize the more they're in your mind, the more powerful they feel, sort of like an ego boost, and the less value she sees in you.

You initiate contact again after a few months of no reply from her

You do now realize how powerless this makes you look, right? You've declared yourself as the "waiting guy". You're basically telling her "I'm gonna wait in line because I have no other options". A girl I used to date and became my oneitis for a short while (see, we've all been there) had this guy, let's called him B, who won't quit being hopeful that one day she'd be with him when she's ready. She told me he literally said "I'll wait til you're ready". This whole "I'll wait for you" think does nothing but make you seem like a no-life guy who rather sit around and wait.

You've left an extremely poor impression of yourself on her. Stop contacting her. Right now, I know it's impossible to stop thinking about her entirely. So, start getting busy so that at least something else will occupy your mind. Eventually you'll get over it. She's nothing man. Even if right now or tomorrow she suddenly wants to get together with you, you think it's gonna last after all this? After the way you put her on a pedestal and feed her ego?

It's not worth it. Respect yourself, friend. Focus on you. Use this opportunity to reevaluate and see what is lacking in your life. Focus on you. But ultimately, the greatest happiness is gained not from others, but from yourself. Realize that this girl isn't what you want, you only want what she makes you feel.

I apologize, I know this is a bit delayed. Truth is, I'm just not sure what to say.

I am fairly busy this summer for a number of reasons, which is certainly the largest factor in me saying I don't think we can see each other soon. But it is also true that there is an emotional element. I'm not sure how to define it.

You asked me to give you insight on how I really feel. That's difficult, because how I feel is really just a big amalgamation of attempts to please other people. I guess I'll try to divulge at least what I can.

First, you must know I am still extraordinarily in love with Chad and will be for a long, long time. Be this as it is, we are continuing our relationship up to his leaving for another state in late August. I know it's futile and silly but that's life, you know. Regardless, I owe it to him to, at the very least, not do anything that would severely hurt him between here and now. And, I think within good reason, he would not be pleased with me making time to spend alone with you, considering the situation, despite the now platonic state of your emotions. I insisted to him forever that you and I were only friends--now his trust is broken in that and truly so is mine.

I know it's not really your fault--things happen--but I was just under the impression, that, well, things weren't happening, and now I feel stupid and other forms of bad.

There's a lot more I could say but probably a lot of people wouldn't want me to, so I won't.

This was never a friendship of obligation, just so you know.
