There's an old saying that helps explain why men are generally happier than women: "men fantasize about doing things, women fantasize about having things done to/for them". This doesn't just apply to sex. Give a man a million dollars and he may not spend it wisely, but he will almost certainly use the money to DO things he enjoys.
