Well done! Instead of giving your hard earned money to some entitled woman, you are investing in yourself.

Women are so entitled that they demand you absolutely shower them with gifts and cash and food and entertainment. Everything is handed to them as if they are princesses.

When you buy stocks in these companies, you are making money off the women and manginas who spend massive amounts of money on dates and wedding ceremonies and other junk products peddled by business in order to make them spend like crazy so they have little leftover so they become slaves.

Mutual funds are a bad idea in general. Especially one that 'mimics the S&P'. You pay extra for someone to mimic the S&P when an index fund does that for a lower administrative cost. For anyone who read this and thinks it is a good idea, it is much better to establish a vanguard account https://personal.vanguard.com/us/openaccount?CompLocation=GlobalHeader&Component=OpenAccount and put your money into the VTI total stock market ETF. Please keep in mind this is what OP did (or something similar with Vanguard), not buying into a 'mutual fund'!

ETFs like SPY or IVV or VOO are better than mutual funds for that. The expense ratio is lower for ETFs because there is only a computer behind them that keeps the stocks in balance rather than having to pay a human to do it and the tax situation is more favorable than a mutual fund. The mutual fund can do stuff that triggers tax events for you even if you didn't do anything but hold it for the whole year. And actually SPY was the original ETF and has "cash drag" compared to IVV or VOO--SPY has to leave the dividends sitting as cash until SPY pays its dividend while IVV and VOO can reinvest the incoming dividends until they pay their outgoing dividends.

The only advantage of a mutual fund is you can put in $ per month whereas an ETF has to be bought like a stock, in whole shares. (If you go Fidelity, you can trade IVV for free.)

I've been holding off on investing the last half a year. I'm not really comfortable buying right now with everything as high as its ever been.

I saw a lot of posters here asking about how to start a mutual fund and how much it costs. So i want to give you some quick advice.

Go to Vanguard.com and open a brokerage account. (Takes five minutes)
Link your bank account to vanguard so you can wire some money over.
There are things called Exchange traded funds (ETFs) that work exactly like mutual funds but have lower starting costs to get started.
Buy 1 share of an ETF called VOO (Vanguard S&P 500 core) it cost $212 or so.
For the low cost of 200$ you now own a peice of the earnings of the 500 largest companies in the USA.
There is no commision and no fees to buy Vanguard ETFs and the yearly maintence Fee is 0.05% which is maybe a penny a year.
As you have more extra money transfer another 200 over and buy another share.

Right on! Make sure your dividends are reinvested for compound growth. Check your expense fees on the fund, make sure they are below 1%., the lower the better. They probably are, but check.BTW, if your an American I recommend a Roth as the account to hold your investments in to reduce future taxes.

Mutual fund is a good way to start. Either your bank's providing you with investment advisor or you went to a broker. Either way, once you have a foundation in the MF of your choice, you should consider branching out into individual securities. They have fewer middlemen, and you get correspondingly higher return on investment.

Be aware, while most MFs have a minimum initial deposit, brokers will be able to start you off with as little as a thousand for individual security purchases.

Good luck. Also, the market is somewhat high right now. Wait for a major Trump fuck up, then buy in with a large stake.

Here's my plan - work long enough till my investments pay off a majority of my bills (food, insurance, cell phone, electricity and water), everything else that adds to the comforts and joy in life I want to earn by working a few hours here and there till I can save up for a trip or a nice composite for Archery etc. You'd never be able to afford that with a gf. The fucking bowling alley is charging almost $45 for 30 mins my last ex wanted to go to!
