As far as I know, there are safe haven laws in the US. Even from completely selfish perspective, why risk committing murder when it's possible to surrender the child legally?

Thomas was taken into custody after she was discharged from the hospital on Saturday afternoon. Stringer said she will be booked at East Baton Rouge Prison and will be charged with attempted second-degree murder.

She was incredibly dumb, she will probably be dismissed as too young or mentally unstable. No normal human would think that is possible to get away with that (unless she is working like 4 moves ahead of us and planned the whole thing including getting caught and dismissed as a mental patient).

I don't know if it's the same in the US, but in my native country jail for dumping a newborn is a very special kind of hell. Inmates will beat you up every single day, and every time they will miss their children. I hope she gets this treatment.
