Bitcoin has become a huge hobby and investment in terms of time and money for me, and over the years it has paid out handsomely. Honestly, I think I'll be retired in 5 years at 37 because of my early investments. Of course it is risky and could collapse at any moment too, but it's been a wild ride (and I'm not posting to evangelize on bitcoin, per se).

Still, understanding why instantaneous, frictionless, global banking could be the black swan event of a lifetime has been a very rewarding experience in terms of understanding local and international economies and finance. Also, listening to podcasts and lectures from some of the most innovative tech minds to ever exist has been a deeply rewarding experience in its own right. It was very complicated at first but with time and patience it has become a fascinating world.

Men, my point is get yourself hobbies. Pursue them passionately and you will be rewarded. If you waste your time trying to satisfy the black hole of "women's needs" you will 1) never succeed bc that's impossible 2) not have time for your own interests, which makes you a vapid, shell of a man.

In the little more than one hundred years since the Federal Reserve has beeen in business, inflation has driven down the value of a dollat to four percent of what it was wrth in 1913. A silver dollar nd a twenty dollar gold pice both contain one ounce. I hope that is graphic enough.

I still contend that thinking people NEED a currency, whether fiat, bitcoin, or gold, to live in a society with other people is based on false assumptions about human nature. There is no evidence primordial civilizations for most of human history had a currency, there were trading of artwork, craft, and foods but mostly to build relationships, it was done as gift exchange and was mostly a communal function. Money and currency does not exist in nature, there is no natural law behind it. Currency and money was mostly formed for purposes of population control, and to create artificial scarcity. If you want real freedom, think outside the box.

Global freedom of currency trade is more efficient. People asigning their capital around the world as they please, without government intervention is a groundbreaking change in economics. A very capitalistic utopia like scenario. States will try to keep their monopoly in currency, banks will try to keep their monopoly in debt by using blockchain technology and making their huge financial monster a little more efficient. But BTC, open software and better access to credit around the world will destroy some industries that are too big to fail. Good times to be alive.

In many parts of the world, you can't even trade in bitcoin without going through a regular bank which imposes limits on how much you can trade. You also have to supply personal information or you won't be allowed to trade. So the government can still control and find you if they want. In some places I hear bitcoin is considered a "taxable asset" as well. So much for going "off-grid" with your millions. I mean, it's harder to trace and control but far from impossible.

I don't think crypto-currencies will take off before we have anything similar to Ethereum working. And I'm talking about the technology, not the brand.

Bitcoin had two problems:

Specialized hardware made it impossible to mine profits on a desktop computer, centralizing everything in a few places on earth, with close proximity to cheap energy and cooling. Basically making it the very same problem we have today with a very few people controlling the issuance of money.

People speculated on it. Bought it and just hoped it would go up.

If a crypto-currency is going to have to be successful it has to be useful for something else, and has to be resistant to specialized hardware miners.

Also, I have not seen anybody handle the issue with a ever growing blockchain. Even Ethereum is pretty large now. It has to be able to fit in a phone or at least comfortably be downloaded on a desktop PC. As soon as people start using mining pools and online wallets, we've already lost. Maybe crypto currencies never was meant to work.
