100k/yr in some places is just a trap salary. It doesn't reflect the cost of living.

I was wise enough to know this when my career path started to get really interesting with offers from many big names in Silicon Valley. Idea men are rare enough and I know what value I bring to the table but I am not going to be delusional about what six figures means in a place like Silicon Valley.

I passed on all of them. Do I like what I do? Yes. I enjoy it. Not many do. That's pretty important. What's also important is to be at ease with who you are and how much you need from life. Chasing the big job is almost as soul crushing as taking on the trophy wife. It's close. This is why many in the rat race burn out.

I plan on doing what I do for a very long time. If not this then something equally relaxed and acceptably rewarding. I already know that having no wife nor kids means I will save a fortune. So I'm not worried about retirement. Rather, what will eventually worry you is how you intend to spend the second half of your life. Right around 35-40 is when that feeling will kick in. You'll start asking yourself if this is enough. Some guys go nuts at this stage and make regrettable choices. Anyway you're a ways off from that.

It's good that you've got a fast start. Mine was about a decade behind yours. No surprise it was due to women. Just remember a job can be as big a trap and you'll be alright.

Do yourself a favour and start covering yourself against survivalist-hate.

Because for most people, they don't see providing jobs or growing people's wealth as a form of good will and charity, and boy are they going to hate you out of spite.
