At its core, MGTOW is a reactionary ideology. MGTOW exists due to an imbalance occurring within society. MGTOW men want to retain their autonomy, protect their resources and have quality sex without compromising time, resources and their lives. So, why is there such vitriol directed towards MGTOW?

Why is there a reaction to MGTOW? The OP looks at this from our point of view. If you want to understand, you need to look at it from the females' point of view. There are lots and lots of reasons:

People do not like having their world view challenged
People do not like to have to think
People do not like anything which goes against their religious ~~indoctrination~~ upbringing
Women do not like to have their supremacy, value, specialness and privilege called in to question
Women do not like to think that they have been behaving badly; they do not want their press releases contradicted
Women have an in group preference, but MGTOW is about giving them less goodies in order to benefit an out group
Most feminists believe their own rubbish about patriarchy/rape culture/feminist whine of the day. Not good to call their world view in to question.
MGTOW is a threat to the life plans of many women - carousel, marriage, divorce rape, whatever
MGTOW fails to fawn over women. Failure to worship looks like an attack, from the point of view of female privilege
Women dream of marriage, it's like the ultimate social approval for women (which is why they care more about the wedding than the quality of the relationship.) MGTOW threatens this
Women hate MGTOW because hell hath no fury like a woman scorned

I used to hear a lot about the "Male Ego"; this was a popular topic back during the "women's liberation" days of the 70's, aka second wave feminism.
But like most feminism, this is pure projection. It is women who have problems propping up their egos, because they are not valued for their strength, intelligence, accomplishments, etc. Women derive their sense of self worth from collective praise. When MGTOW comes along and says "fuck it, you cunts aren't worth the bother", it's like an attack on their already weak egos. This is the same as the Shakespearean comment that "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" - its the same mechanism. Failure to reinforce weak female egos is viewed as an attack.

The thing is, among women, it would be an attack. Women are ~~dishonest~~ indirect, and damning with faint praise is the same a covert attack in the catty world of women. As usual, they are incapable of looking at this the way a man would and realizing that it's not about them. Well, not in the way they think it is anyway.

Generally speaking people don't like their worldview or ideas challenged. I believe that's because of a combination of ego and insecurity, and confronting negative aspects of oneself is often difficult for most as it is. Then add emotional attachment to said ideas, and there you have it.

cuz society depends on these men slaving away keeping it afloat. they used to get decent compensation for their hard work, now that it gets more often than not taken away and almost all of the benefits of being a standup citizen gone, they're gonna close up shop and go elsewhere. it means no more trips to the salon for women and more having to grow their own food and actually earn their living. women are more depressed than ever having joined the workforce and having responsibilities, living a "man's life" or as close to it as they'll ever get. they realized just how good they had it but this generation and beyond is the first one where women don't have the safety net of marrying and having kids at 38.

I don't think MGTOW is reactionary. I think it's always been inherent in men but over the centuries has been eroded to near lunacy that a "reaction" is only natural. I'm surprised men didn't put their collective foot down earlier.
