I was 23 by the time I was divorced. I was making over 100k/yr at 22/23 as a newly minted freight train conductor.

My wife suddenly became a feminist and filed for divorce because "I was oppressing her by providing". She re-married a year later and this guy remained unemployed for six years and lived on her welfare and my child support, along with family help from her family that would have never been afforded to me.

I ended up getting 15% custody of my two children and ordered to pay them 45% of my after deduction income, based on a 100k/yr figure.

I'm 33 now. Financially and basically emotionally destroyed and at the lowest rung of society without being actually homeless. I ended up chasing my kids around, attempting to stay in their lives, trying to accommodate the demands of working an on-call career and strict attendance policy of a job I wasn't legally allowed to leave, now that I'm obligated to pay support.

Between one attempt at re-locating to where my kids ended up and one furlough, I ended up 24k in arrears with 12% interest, and still paying support plus arrearage payments. I live in a studio apartment in the ghetto. My truck was just stolen and I got a rental in the interim to look for my truck. I had my kids over and we did some looking around neighborhoods for where my truck might have been stripped out...but in the process ended up finding a decomposing body next to a road instead. My area of residence is that bad. This is the station in life divorce has placed me in. They on the otherhand, get to live in a near by town that is very nice, safe and somewhere I've always wanted to live, even since childhood. I get to pay them to live there for close to twenty years in total. I won't financially recover until I'm 40, and even then, all the missed wages, opportunity and better women that I missed is incalculable.

Point is, for those of you reading this..don't do it. Just don't do it. Don't marry her. These women aren't worth it and the system will think nothing of devouring you.

Dude as a 22 year old guy - Just focus on your career, lift weights and get a great physique, save money - and if you want to date occassionally then date but don't get a girl pregnant, don't get into a longterm relationships. You will be so much better off in 5-10 years that you can't really comprehend it. Just keep working and building a great life. Women are a side gig at best.
