I am not speaking for college professors here, but I've been around a lot and I think I can kind of decipher where this is coming from. College professors and academics are really pissed off, because they are terrified of these SJWs and many of their own students. They aren't able to teach freely. They are afraid of being hounded and terrorized and having online campaigns launched on them. When that harpy entitled princess berated that Yale professor last year on video, screaming at him about her fucking "safe space" just about every academic on campus noticed and it really made them mad. So now campus executives are under huge pressure by their own professors and researchers to reign in these kindergarten generation terrorists. A turning point seems to have happened when Melissa Click got fired.

I think the U of Chicago has always been a pusher of big educational ideas. It was the promoter of the Great Books series, and I think had Carl Sagan as an alma mater. sagan's opinion on these deep intellectual works, and the program the U of Chicago had for these works and ideas was (and I probably paraphrase poorly) "It's where you learn nothing, but where you learn everything."

So I do send a thumbs up to the U of Chicago. Seneca's in those writings. He's saved many a man.

I find the criticism of safe spaces particularly hilarious considering the insular communities on Reddit and elsewhere that actively ban people with contrary viewpoints. The creation of echo chambers to rail against their polar opposites is the epitome of irony.
