According to the Huffington Post, it's not because the movie eventually sucks and they've made bad choices but, of course:

Actors including Melissa McCarthy and at least one Sony executive have joined Feig to speak out against the sexist, misogynist bits of “Ghostbusters” criticism, appropriately labeling it, well, sexist and misogynist.

It seems those full-of-themselves assholes won't let go no matter what...

Even if they were stupid enough to make a direct sequel to that feminist propaganda, it would do even worse. The feminists who went to see it realized how shitty it was, even though they claim to like it. The vast majority of the feminist target audience of the first one would not go to theaters to see a sequel.

Apparently the Ghostbusters reboot was originally by Producer Amy Pascal, who was a feminist favorite a few years back. She got canned in an email hack scandal.
Sony is (was?) planning a themepark in Dubai, Madame Tussaud exhibit, full range of childrens toys and apparently a computer game.
There is some talk about 2 ghostbusters cartoon films being planned.

This is a loss leader to a massive franchise bet, not just a simple movie. Looking at some heads to fall.

When it comes to summer blockbusters, the numbers cannot lie. For blockbusters are for the people, and not for the moralists, the intellectuals, the educators and the critics.

I think the gender critics need to go back to writing about small foreign art films depicting lesbians in concentration camps and such, and leave the blockbusters to the people. They act like Juvenal who decries the people's love of bread and circuses, but without Juvenal's virtues to back it up.
