That's the key right there, generally men do not need a constant river of noise flowing their way and are comfortable with silence. You could have two guys sitting on a pier all day long without a word spoken and at the end they shake hands because the day was perfect.

Women are not capable of handling the absence of pointless yammeing because they must know on a second by second basis when they are in the pecking order.

I'm an introvert but let me give you a tip on how to be part of any social gathering without feeling like an outsider but like part of the stupid pointless conversation thats going on.

Just stop thinking completely and start yapping about anything that comes to mind. Most people dont care what you are saying as long as you keep talking because thats what makes them feel comfortable. Most of what you are saying will be forgotten anyway 5 minutes later.

I don't think it has to do with being introverted. It's just the way a lot of men communicate. We don't have the need for constant validation and attention/interaction.

I can sit with my guy friends on the porch having a beer and no one says a word for an hour. Good Times.

I get this a lot too. And I answer in my head: "because I have no interest in striking conversation with simpletons like you". What I actually say is irrelevant, because it's a convenient lie.

Umm guys only talk when there is a need for something to be said or have something actually decent to share with other people. But where women are concerned, guys won't talk much to them simply because it leads nowhere. You just end up being a tampon for all of her bullshit she's been going through, or it only helps feed her ego some.

From experience, I've only ever asked a guy why he's quiet if I've just finished being long-winded and I'm feeling awkward about it.

I hear men complain all the time that women only talk about themselves, or talk way too much. I love conversation but I can get very self-conscious when I feel that I'm dominating the conversation. I start to worry that I'm steamrolling the guy with my big mouth.

So I ask why he so quiet because it's my way of letting him know I DO want him to contribute and I'm not trying to take the attention.

Small talk can be very dumb and superficial, but it can also be how you get to the intellectual conversation. You start with simple things and general small talk and from there you can branch out to similar interests and stuff. I like deep conversations with both sides having an equal give and take, but I would find it hard to get there without small talk.

Now, I will totally admit that I've seen the girl who obnoxiously asks "WHY ARE YOU SO QUIET?" She asks loudly, draws attention to you and herself and is not so subtly trying to imply that there's something wrong with you. Truth is, it happens to all of us, men and women alike. The ones who do it obnoxiously are usually just irritated that you aren't paying them enough attention or asking them questions about themselves.

But acting like you get to be the quiet one, and she's an idiot for asking and all women suck at holding conversations.... Yeah dude, I wouldn't talk to you either. It kinda sounds like you're putting the job of a meaningful conversation in her hands completely, and that's not fun for anyone.

Well, many women, especially the younger ones, gathered only knowledge about manipulation of guys, fashion, overpriced restaurants and whatever their job or major is. That is very, very little. I bet 90%+ could not show you the location of Romania, Libya, Yemen or whatever on a world map ( just an example ). So if you do not fill the vacuum noone does. I pretty much stopped even trying to have serious conversations with them, thats what bros are there for.

Most people I know are really just complaining about something. Women gossip, complain and talk shit about other people. Men generally have deeper conversations and actually have some topics of discussion that are better overall to talk about. Women bore me and outside of the women in my family I would rather not have more than a few minute chat with them.

because the right way to get a conversation out of a quiet person is to reel them in with observations and statements, not stating the obvious.

Or simply ask and learn about what attracts interest to them. What many people don't get is that introverts and quiet people in general prefer to get lost in their own toughs rather than join in nonsense chit-chatting (gossip about people they don't even know, celebs' lives, sports or TV shows they don't even like/follow... whatever).

Now, show genuine interest in them, ask them talk about hobbies or topics that matters to them and they'll speak more in ten minutes about that issue than what they did about anything else for several months. Just my two cents (and own experience).
