Species where males are more dominant are the most healthy. If we were a species with a dominant sexually aggressive female.... all men would be dead. Little boys would only live long enough to be mated with and then killed.

Women only gatekeep sex within the confines of society. Otherwise they would sleep around, kill their young and steal resources from whoever they could. Hey wait. We reverted back to that already. LOL

the way i see it is men desire sex more but women desire relationships more. so naturally women gatekeep sex but men gatekeep relationships. just a shame that alot of guys give this power to the woman like a fool

Yes basicaly to all that. It is not hard for a women to get laid that is why men celebrate getting laid younger it's something you have to work at women just have to say yes. Unless the guy is in the top 5$ of looks he has to work at getting laid.

Because evolution and civilization. If males were the gatekeepers, society as we know it never would have evolved and homo sapiens would have most likely died out long ago. Or possibly still in scattered, smaller tribes, where the strongest male would rule, keeping down or killing the other males, so he could fill up all the fertile females in the tribe. Much in the way you see dominant males in so many animal species. Once we started outgrowing tribalism (as a historical entity, not as a mental attribute) and civilization started getting afoot, female gatekeeping is the only socially constructive way of building a society.

TL;DR As soon as people started living together in larger numbers, male gatekeeping of sex would undo any attempt at evolving society further. (Unless you imagine some completely other social norm, such as "women are free for all" or something similar to that.)

Because the woman neccessarily bears virtually all of the costs associated with sex. She is the one who becomes pregnant and defenceless for nine months, and then is the one saddled with the infant. The man's contribution need be no more than the sex act itself. It of course can be more than that, but as a man you can just have sex and walk away and the interaction is done with and finished. Now, this option sort of exists now for women as well with birth control and abortion, but these are very recent developments.

As a result, it is the woman who is giving something of value, fundamentally.
