If your job is like most others, you have an HR department full of angry short haired women. Just go in, be the beta drone, don't rock the boat. If you anger your coworker and she complains, you're on the street.

Typically you need to hire 3 women to do the job of 2 men as women will often miss work for sick kids and stuff like that, so they have a higher marginal cost to employ in that regard. But when HR or legal gets involved, they see men as a massive liability because an angry woman plus a female and beta cucked jury equals large lawsuit against the company, so HR/legal/management will almost always side against a fungible male, which, pardon my frankness, it sounds like you are. So just keep your head down and eat the sh!t they serve you. Maybe even apologize to the lady for snapping at her. It's just not worth falling on your sword over petty office crap. Good luck.

She is widrawing attention to you, she is punishing you. Now you don't feel validated by her but you realize this game and don't play. Suddenly you don't need her validation or attention anymore because you are the great catch and you know her ploy.

Remeber you are the prize, these games are funny to you and know she will come seeking for your attention soon so you are patient.

You also know that there is an abundance of women out there and don't need to worry about one chick.

It's not clear you passed this test. If she complained and you fixed it, the fact that you told her "Stop" may not mean much. If she interprets it as placating behavior, you're Beta in her eyes. Expect to see this behavior repeated.

Some alternate responses:

Alpha - Tell her to stop, and don't fix the problem. Tell her to stop, and tell her to fix the problem. Tell her her complaint is overly dramatic or childish. Humor is a good way to do the latter - "Did we miss our nap today?" "OMG, the fate of the free world depends on whether that file is in the right drawer! Alert the UN"

A&A - this is good, especially if you made the mistake. You acknowledge the problem, but don't get butt hurt that she's upset about it. The it is not about you, and you don't subordinate yourself to her. You can even apologize as long as you don't diminish yourself.

"Sorry. I forget, is it A B C or I before E? I goofed off in kindergarten". "I know, right? How is it that you and I are the only people who can do it right every time?" "Yeah, my uncle died because a file was in the wrong drawer. Well, not really. He was shot by a jealous husband, but it's sort of the same". "You know they only do that 'cause I'm so good at this job. They have to hide files to keep things interesting for me. "

Just a side note: I'm not sure you'll want to start a business with the motive of not working 8-5. I haven't run one myself, but from the people I know who have its only more and more work.

It will pay big dividends if you do it right but you get out what you put in: if you half ass it then you'll get what you earned.

try to keep interaction with any of your co-workers to a minimum. they are not your friends and will throw you under the bus at the first chance they get. be frinedly. make small talk but never talk about anything really personal. this isnt the 1980s anymore
