Down the Rabbit Hole: What is your belief in the existence of the universe?

I like Carl Sagan, Charles Eisenstein, Joseph Campbell, Nietzsche so far but I've got a lot more reading to do. Listened to alan watts, he's okay.

I have the same thoughts you do though, like what is our point? Why the universe? How? Who (if anyone/thing) created it? Am I real? Is anything real? Our senses allow us to perceive only a fraction of color, sounds, etc. so what else am I missing out on?

Once you start asking these questions and quieting your mind from the "real world" (what a farce) then "the economy", wars, consumerism, belief systems, dating, marriage, taxes, bills, "being a man" all just kinda falls away.

Society becomes nothing more than a snapshot.

I really like having these conversations with people but it is so hard to connect with people in the matrix of every day life.

I know that I don't know, therefore I'm not going to waste my time believing what someone else tells me I should accept as fact. I enjoy philosophical arguments as a mental exercise. Belief is an abandonment of curiosity.

I studied theoretical physics in university and wrote my thesis on inflationary cosmology. Big bang is basically accepted by all of science, but Roger Penrose believes in an infinite cycle of bangs and crunches, really interesting. For a non-technical background, the best would be any of the three books by Brian Greene. He's a physicist but does an excellent job giving intuitive understanding of the ideas. I believe Fabric of the Cosmos was his first. If you're feeling ambitious dive into string theory vs loop-quantum gravity ;)

I'm going with the idea that the universe I perceive does actually exist until I see peer review evidence to the contrary.
