Waste of time, full of plot holes and halfassed explanations.

A bunch of story lines that go nowhere making it really clear how heavy the editing was. The story doesn't make sense.

Of course, Mary sue wins without struggling. Just as bad as the last jedi.

I thought it was extremely poor. The writing is staggeringly bad. It's filled with plot holes and pointless macguffins. They have to find a sith knife that then tells them how to find a sith wayfinder that then tells them how to find the sith homeworld. Go from planet A, to B, to C etc, jump from pointless action scene to the next. It's totally unengaging. I was cringing in my seat at parts of it.

It gives it's characters very little to do, and consequently the actors have nothing to work with and come across as bored. Its just watered down shit, like a Saturday morning cartoon with a massive budget.

Check out The Critical Drinker's review on YouTube, he sums it up better than I ever could. His channel is worth subscribing too btw.

P.S - It doesn't feature the man-hating crap from The Last Jedi but they ramp up Rey's Mary Sue factor to unbearable levels.

Never seen one star wars movie in my life. Same with game of thrones. Walking dead. Lord of the rings. I try my best to avoid Hollywood produced content. Who runs Hollywood, same people want our demise.

I hate that the Disney sequels (episodes 7,8,9) were made without a good planned story. Disney was more worried about promoting their WOKE garbage than good writing.

It is good from a fan perspective and just fine from a cynical perspective. While the lead is, of course, a woman, there is no hinting of "Mary Sue" or new wave feminism throughout the movie.

The significantly improved upon the comedy in the film and toned down the awkward puppydog love from Finn to Rey in such a way that you no longer feel strange watching the two characters interact.

There are plenty of lovey-dovey moments in the film that clearly is meant to impact the younger audience. By this I mean idea like "we will always have each other!"

The CGI throughout the film was notably impressive. Very well done.

I do have to reiterate, since many people on this subreddit believe the series to have been turned into feminist propaganda, it is not. There is a female lead and a female role model, but they have essentially separated the lead from her gender and the story could have functioned identically if the gender of Rey was flipped to a man. Since the story would hold up had the gender been flipped, I don't think there is any argument for disney white knighting or pandering in that regard.

Personally, I do not think how the movie ended follows cannon, but that is more a personal critique, rather than an academic one.

Honestly, there are several frustrating points to it. After discussing with a couple adult male family members (after seeing it Christmas eve), who are HUGE Star Wars fans, and realize the SJW/feminazi/Disney bullshit, their take on it was this: The 7th episode stands and this (9th) episode stands, just discard the 8th episode and it's somewhat ok.

I'm not a die-hard Star Wars fan, so I won't say it's a disaster, but the film is mess. A collection of loose (and silly) plot points that don't make any sense. I'm not surprised, though. It's obvious that Disney didn't have a solid vision for the new trilogy. TROS is a failed attempt at saving a sinking ship that has more holes than Swiss cheese.
