Yes. Anytime a friend gets a gf I tell him he’d better not abandon his friends. Next thing I know he does the ol’ fade to black routine. Once he breaks up he’s eager to meet up again.

9 out of 10 "married" guys are "not allowed" to have ANY "still single/bachelor" friends (and probably about the same ratio are forced to give up ALL of their old interests/hobbies/activities too -- which usually means that you've have all of nothing to actually BE "friends" with them about, except sentimental reminiscing about "the good old days").

The men with the girlfriends are the ones who drift away. The friends aren't really going anywhere, its the guys in these relationships that are either unwilling, or unalloyed, to have other male friends.

Yes, isolation is part of the manipulation game plan. Reduce outside influences so she is his only reality and then she can proceed to warp it into whatever she wants. You as an unattached male friend are the voice of reason and a threat to her plans.

I'm lucky enough that my friends and I prioritize gaming online with each other as often as we can help it, but one of them is getting married in December and another friend is trying to have a baby with his GF, so we'll... see how things turn.

Yup. They become domesticated, no longer free to spend their own money or make their own choices.

One of my buddies couldn't stop talking about battle for azeroth. We were both long time wow players. He was so jazzed to hit mythics.

What happened? He got married, then nope. "My wife wouldn't play wow with me anymore. She just cancelled her account." So of course he had to follow. She controls their finances, their decisions, etc. It's a sad thing to watch.

Yup, that's pretty common. Women tend to not like their man's friends and often encourage or demand he dispose himself of them.

But it works in reverse too. Some of those men who drift away will inevitably get divorced and then, when they're left with nothing, often look to reconnect with anyone the can from their past as part of the rebuilding process.

Yeah, first they still show up like aways, then he still shows up but his phone rings all the time (GF asking where he is), after that he still shows up but gets home early, he stops showing up frequently because the girl says she doesn't trust us and finally he is trained like a dog and doesn't show up anymore.

The sad reality is that what we think of as "friendship" was really just an illusion that was shattered by the internet. People have always only been interested in using one another.

Once the internet brought 24/7 effortless access to entertainment and knowledge, it was only a matter of time before people withdrew.

I also think that you are seeing the beginnings of society breaking down - whether or not this is a cause or an effect of this societal isolation is yet to be seen....

Yes, My friend (pre-marriage and children) always spent his weekends over at my place (Or I at his) and now I am lucky to see him twice a year.
