They can't make you show up for a time you're not scheduled for. They can ask if you can come in but they can't force you in earlier.

On the contrary, theres probably nothing that can stop them from firing your ass. Go in or don't, your not recquired too. Just know they could chop ya

2 ways

Either you suck it up and sleep earlier to wake up earlier. This is the only legit option if you have no where else to make money and need it

Or you can just let it not bother you that much when you read the message, go to work, and tell your boss about how your sleep time and work life have strict boundaries and that they should not criss cross. Confront your boss about it when he brings it up and don’t let down. It’s one thing to be employed and be on call. It’s another to have a set schedule and your boss expects you to be in a completely early time. Did your boss mention the possibility of working earlier before you were given the job?

Here's how I generally handle this. If I can I almost always make an attempt to do so because that just means more money in my pocket. It's pretty widely known that if there's extra hours I want them. That being said because I almost always accept extra hours, I never feel bad or guilty about saying no.

Go in early or don't. Depends on your state if they can do shit about it.

A word of caution... if the economy tanks you may really appreciate this job. There's tens of millions of unemployed people now that might take your job happily. I hope the easing of the quarantine brings their jobs back, but in the meantime, play it cool.

If you can make time to come earlier and it doesn't ruin your plans for the day then go. If it does get in the way of your plans for the day then don't.

I'm a 17 year old working in retail and I get called up to come in earlier all the time. I usually say okay, since it rarely gets in the way of my plans for the, especially during quarantine.

Sometimes they just need you because it got busy earlier than they expected or someone called in sick. It's rarely done to spite you, so don't make that your first assumption.
