Hopefully this post isn't too long.

I'll start by saying I have most RP concepts down pat. I lift, I have an internship, I'm in uni, I live on my own. My biggest issue is usually shit tests which is what I guess this post is about? But it's more than that as you'll see.

So last night this HB 8.5 girl I had stopped bothering with messaged me out of the blue saying

"Shelley, is your brother single?"

Preface: I met this girl on tinder and we followed eachother on IG. After two or so tries of trying to organise to catch up I stopped bothering since it seemed like she was tryna be difficult. Fast forward a few months and we run into eachother at a festival after party. She's with some dude and I'm with a group. We make eye contact and she recognised me. I give her the nod and she quickly scurries over. We chat for a bit and she's really touchy, arm around me and keeps kissing me on the cheek and all this shit. I mention "wow we finally meet" sarcastically and she just laughs and says "yeah we finally do". After a few minutes of chatting I leave with my mates.

Fast foward a few months haven't really spoken to her and I run into her again at another gig. This time she's with another dude but being all touchy and shit with him. She comes over we talk for a bit but she goes back and we move on. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Then maybe a month or so ago she sent me in IG some thing that was like "send this to 10 friends to scare them". Like what??? Bitch I don't even talk to you why are you sending this too me.

Then fast forward to last night.

"Shelley, is your brother single?"

Generally I like to think I'm a non-emotional dude but what she said last night really bothered to me to no end for multiple reasons.

  1. With a name like Sheldon / Shelton etc. I've always had to deal with the nickname Shelly. Now obviously not everyone uses it and those who have I've general just ignored it. But last night made me realise no one will ever be able to take me seriously with a name like that. I'm in my 20s for Christ sake. Should I just do what my old man does and go by his middle name? Maybe that's why he does - he always just said that's what his parents called him. I might ask him today

  2. This isn't the first time a girl has asked about my brother or commented on my brother to my face. I'm not a bad looking dude, blonde hair, blue eyes, fair skin. But I can see why they'd comment on him. We don't really look like brother since he has olive skin, dark hair and dark eyes. If you could use two words to describe us for me it would be "cute and handsome" and for him probably "handsome and hot". That combined with the Shelly just dug the knife in deeper.

  3. What do I even make of this? Is she just being a bitch / childish? Is it a shit test? Is she just tryna hit me up but she's she's being a dill about it?

My initial thought is just ignore it she's being a bitch - which I've done. If that's the right choice there's still the issue of my name kind of being a joke no one can take seriously.

On the other hand maybe it is just a shit test and she's trying to hit me up in a weird way? There's the potential here for a witty response Eg. "Dunno, why don't I pick you up and you can go ask him". I mean how is she supposed to know Shelly and talking about my brother together would piss me off that much?

What do you think? The main issue here is the name thing. Any of you changed your name or go by something different? I always thought I should embrace it and own it but now I'm not so sure.

In regards to the girl, she's a plate is happily move into my rotation just previosuly wasn't worth the effort since she was being difficult. But I'm also not phased if I just next her. Are these choosing signals? I'm really not sure how to read this situation.
