3mo LTR (dated for 8mo), we tease/insult each other all the time and enjoy it. Sometimes one of us overdoes it and the other gets pissed off, but the mood restores itself after a short while.

Today she angered me immensely and I felt disrespected: she was eating chips and I told her "give me one". She jokingly refused. I tried a few more times and she kept refusing. I jokingly put a tiny amount of ketchup on her cheek (she doesn't wear makeup). Her retaliation was doing the same on my trousers.

I was angry as it stained, and she could've just gone for my skin. I told her "what the fuck were you thinking" and she called me an "oversensitive baby" and tried to be physically affectionate. I genuinely withdrew attention and she kept acting needy while playfully calling me a baby and asking me to cheer up.

This put me in a bad mood. She kept doing the same until I told her: "just stop talking, you're making things worse". That put her in a bad mood and she withdrew attention.

We started acting more normally over time but she kept making snarky remarks to my "oversensitive behavior" - the mood never fully recovered. I could sense her attraction vanishing as I failed to "be a rock".

  • Was I overly sensitive, or righteously pissed off?

  • How should I have reacted to the disrespect without appearing butthurt?
