Don’t go into a courtroom without a victim advocate. They are free and will shield you from abuse within the court room. If you have the money, I advise you to also seek a lawyer. I’ve seen judges not listen to a thing, berate the victim, and then vote in favor of the asshat on the other side of the room all because a lawyer wasn’t there to stand up for the victim.

See if there's a domestic violence clinic near you where you could walk in/do a screener. If they take om your case, they will represent you for free.

DV court is generally in my experience a little chaotic just in terms of all the petitioners there. You will probably have to wait a while before your case is heard, and may have to listen to a lot of other people's cases first. Make sure you check in with the clerk/court officer as soon as you get there.

It's a low key place, but like any court situation, you'll do best if you dress formally, and get a lawyer.

Edit to add: sorry you are in this situation, and good luck! Also I'm not familiar with Quebec DV court specifically; it could be quite different. But the lawyer point stands. Mostly I am thinking in terms of if you want to seek a civil protection order. For the criminal case against, you don't need a lawyer so much as a victim advocate, as another commenter mentioned.
