Thanks to this amazing group, I was finally able to delete all the old messages from my ex and block his number!
Short story: We dated for about a year, but we both knew he was moving across the world at the end of the year, so the relationship had an end date. I didn't mind because I wasn't looking to get married or anything like that.
Anyway, we agreed to stay friends because I really cared about him, and for the first year he lived in the new country, I was still his main support, doing all kinds of emotional labor for him at all hours of the day and helping him tie up things in my country, like selling his car.
Then I moved, and wanted reciprocal emotional support, and at first, it was OK. I planned a trip to visit him over Winter break (just as friends), and things were OK. I still had feelings for him, but I knew he wasn't who I wanted to be with long term.
Three weeks before I am supposed to leave, he tells me that he's getting married and that his fiancée doesn't want me to come visit. Like, I had planned a trip to the other side of the world that was nonrefundable!
I come to find out that she is half his age (ofc), comes from the country that he studies, and has a kid with no dad in the picture. She may love him, she may be using him, Idk, but I felt betrayed because I had done so much for him, and yet all I was asking was to stay at his place for a few weeks.
I still went in the trip and had a great time, but when I got home, he completely cut me off because talking to me made his wife uncomfortable.
I was basically waiting for things to blow up so I could say I told you so. But this sub made me realize that holding my grudge was holding me back and keeping me from being my best self.
The fallacy of sunken costs has kept me in relationships with NVM for too long. You will never get your time, money, and effort back and they will never appreciate what you did.
I am leveling up thanks to FDS!
