Coronavirus restrictions have made church attendance cumbersome and muzzled corporate worship, so I haven't been going. Singing through a mask is gross and unhealthy. Sacraments are perceived as disease vectors. Fellowship is impaired by social distancing, and the government-mandated limited capacity means nobody I know goes anymore.
So why go at all? All of the benefits of church attendance can either be fulfilled by online resources and my Bible study group. And I can still financially support ministries online as well.
Questions: What does the Bible mandate that we do church-wise on a regular basis? Do we have to go to church?
Here is what I found in my own research:
The 4th Commandment (Exodus 20:8-11) We must rest on the Sabbath
Hebrews 10:24-25 We must not neglect meeting with other believers
1 Corinthians 12:12-31 & Ephesians 4:11-16 As part of the body of Christ, we must build up the body through ministry with others
Ephesians 5:19-20 Address each other with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make melody to the Lord in your heart
I think I can do all of these things without walking into a building every Sunday morning. If you think I can't, call me out so I know. If you think I misinterpreted a verse, let me know about that too.
Bonus Question: Are we biblically commanded to listen to sermons?
