struggled with socializing

This is the issue. Socialising is nuanced. It’s a little give but definitely a whole of taking. If people are talking at you, over you or without you; you have options. AM, A&A or even directly calling them out. If you have value or even just believe you have value be assertive.

Directly or indirectly; with humour, sarcasm, wit or rage; find what works best for you and hone it. Then wield it your social advantage. Open Mic Nights, Debate Teams, and Toastmasters are great avenues to explore strengthening your social muscle.

It doesn't have to do with respect. You aren't operating confidence when you are in groups. Go back and study on holding frame.

If people are talking over you, or not listening, it's probably because you mumble and/or don't speak loudly and clearly.

It's a bit weird to explain, you don't necessarily have to be loud to project your voice (if that makes sense?). If you look at singers/pro speakers they're all able to project their voices, without yelling. One of the things you can learn to do is speak from your belly, rather than your throat.

There's probably articles, YouTube videos and the like about all of this of this. They can explain it much better than my attempt here.

Do these problems happen around the same groups of people you have always known....or around strangers?

Don't speak so much....be a bit more stoic, And measured about when you talk. People are not going to nust ceed the conversation to you and listen to you talk all night.

Also, what are you speaking about? Perhaps you bringing up topics that don't interest others. Here's the key!

The way to win friends and influence people is to let THEM talk.more than anything. Dale Carnegie had it right. To build relationships with people ask them questions, find THEIR opinions on things. Get them talking.

spend more time listening and you'll be surprised how much people want you around.

Talk like others are 4 feet further than where they really are.

Also, listening to you is useless if you don't have meaningful stuff to contribute. This may be the problem.
