At what point do you explain to a man that he's not meeting your standards? Do you bother trying to help him if he seems well-intentioned, or just let him go and move on? I know it's not our responsibility as women to mother random boys into men, but are there extenuating circumstances? I.e someone is really well-intentioned but just seems completely clueless?

How do you draw the line between offering guidance to your expectations and doing emotional labour?

To me, it feels harder to give up on someone when I feel a spark of potential, especially given that HVM are so hard to come by.
