I recently finished an audiobook from my local library (in the U.S) called "The Art of Showing Up" by Rachel Wilkerson Miller.
While it isnt a dating book, it is a relationship book -- how to have one with yourself, friends, family, co-workers, and men too. With many of us here at FDS suddenly finding ourselves abandoning our old pick-me lives, I found that this book was a glorious introduction to putting yourself first -- A.K.A showing up for yourself.
The first half of the book is about taking care of yourself, and the second half is about others. Here are just a few of the insights that the author dives into:
- how to take care of yourself if/when you're struggling with depression, stress, or a major life change
- how to set clear boundaries, and what to do if those boundaries aren't respected
- how to make friends as an adult (and it's a very frank and realistic chapter)
- how to break up with toxic friends
- how to show up for a friend who is dealing with a major life struggle
And there's SO much more.
I found the author's advice to be so.... real. And relevant to how life truly is. There's even a whole chapter where she talks about her divorce from her LV ex (he literally disappeared). This book hit so many topics for me that I might buy it and read it again.
Worth a read or listen!
