What is hamster, hamstering?

Rationalization hamster. It's a metaphor for the amount of energy people go into the make something fit into their view rather than adjust their view to the clear evidence. For example a 300 lbs women walks into a bar and nobody approaches her for an hour. Complaining about this later, someone suggests it may be because people don't find her physically attractive. She then "hamsters" by saying how it's because men are intimidated by a women of size and can't handle her.

By the way everyone hamters to some extent.

Women are emotional creatures first and logical creatures second. This does not mean they are dumb or less logical, but that they trust emotions more than logic. So when a woman has strong emotions on something, she will think of logical reasons to justify those emotions. This leads to crazy mental gymnastics called hamstering.

What would you call a guy who never gets over his first love, and well over five (possibly eight?) years later keeps a kind of 'shrine' to her, still keeps in contact and tells her he loves her, has her as the main beneficiary of his will, would drop everything any anything is she asked and seems to be her perpetual 'backup'?

Has had relationships since but drives them away with secrecy and compulsively lying.

Acts Alpha in public, has no follow through to extravagant promises and plans.

Hamstering is the result of cognitive dissonance. Cognitive dissonance is the discomfort experienced when simultaneously holding two or more conflicting cognitions: ideas, beliefs, values or emotional reactions. For instance let's say a girl has just cheated on her boyfriend. She knows that this is wrong and that makes her feel guilt, so she rationalizes her decision to justify her action. "he didn't give me enough attention, if he did I wouldn't have cheated"

Hamster is solipsism. Not the literal theory of your brain and train of thought being the only thing in existence, but the metaphorical usage of the human brain shaping reality to hide truths that might cause harm.

Everyone hamsters, and the Red Pill is about limiting it and then completely removing it.

What does any of this have to do with the small furry critter? I made the assumption that it represents our conscious mind constantly running like a hamster wheel? All those voices in our head saying the same thing Trying to rationalize garbage we take as truth? Be a nice boy. Do nice things. You shouldn't do this or that. Blah blah blah. By the way the purpose of yoga is to stop the constant interruptions of the conscious mind. Give the hamster a break. Ha!
