The best advice for staying safe is trying to blend in, you can always spot the Americans. I have spent time in Medellín but haven’t been with any hookers there, the advice would be the same. Keep your valuables safe and probably bring them back to your hotel instead of a seedy brothel in comuna 13. I’m not sure about finding girls but there are certainly agencies/websites. Try not to look like money or an easy mark. Also, stay away from drugs and be careful of drinks being spiked. Try to book taxis in advance just in case. When you get there, familiarize yourself with the money so you know how much you are paying. Try and learn some basic phrases so you can at least tell if they are insulting you under their breath. Anyways, Medellín is nice, but the women are nicer, just don’t get lost in the sauce. Enjoy, have a cerveza for me

Be careful.... if you are traveling with a USA or European passport, they will kill you to steal it and your identity with zero fucks given.

If you do not speak Spanish and in the local dialect, looking for prostitutes will most likely end up with you dead in a ditch with your throat slit.

not a fan of prostitution, but if you're going to anyways...

avoid parque lleras for anything. colombian prostitution is legal, but it has to be done in a specific manner. it's illegal when out on the street. the cops will harass foreigners about it, and especially on fri/sat, the whole area has tons of cops out.

also, watch out for CDs. there's a lot of talk on the hostel scene of wasted guys who took a girl back to the hostel or whatever and it turns out to be a guy.

and worst of all, scopolamine and other knockout drugs are such a huge problem, places that have over some occupancy of short term rentals have to register all of them and guests are prohibited by law after hours. the girl will drug the guy's drink back at his place, and when he's passed out, steal all his shit. scopolamine is especially bad because it makes you stupid and compliant. there are cases where the guy is on video going downstairs with her to the nearest bank, they withdraw all the cash he possibly can from the ATM (usually daily limits are like $200-1000 US) and then she just leaves him in the alley passed out.

Can you call and arrange it? Saves hassle when you go in. I would ask for health records if possible. Don't take credit card with you, cash only. The card can get "misplaced" and thousands lost...

Go to agencies or incall massages and enjoy your time there. Bring just enough, leave your iphone at home.

Never bring a girl back to your place. There are some amazing women, both Colombian & Venezuelan, in those places.

Would not attempt without a local, trusted guide. Medellin and Bogata are insane. Easy to get rolled there.

They’re probably chock full of STDs from screwing cartel members and are probably addicted to cocaine as well and try to rob you, so be careful.

I tried it. I met a girl on a Latina match service, she lived in Barranquilla, very poor. We video chatted for a couple months, then arranged a meet, in Cartagena. Had to wire her money for bus fare, but damn if she didn't show up at the hotel on time with her luggage.

I was searching for my Adriana Lima. What I got was an attractive, but very dull woman. I speak some Spanish but the sticking point right off the bat was she would not learn any English. Plus she had an obese 7 yr old. We had our few days of fun, did the beach, scuba diving (she got seasick), dinners in the old Spanish city, it was OK. Met her sister and brother in law. Learned a bit about the history of the place.

The sex was duty sex. Oh and all the things she promised she would do, most of those got nixed by her. She would not go on the jetski with me, would not throw the football on the beach, etc. I came to realize she was a completed product and stuck in her ways.

Upon return home, she asked for a 90 day marriage visa. I said I know Columbians travel to Miami all the time. Get a passport and you can come visit. Oh no, there were 'issues' and she couldn't get one, had to be the 90 day visa. I said well I'd hate to bring you up here and then send you back if it doesn't work. That was the end of that.

It was a bucket list item checked off, for the cost of roughly 1,500 to 2,000 that I spent. The experience was interesting and I'd consider vacationing in Cartegena again. But even that beach resort area was dull, just like her. They had military guards on foot patrol at every intersection, to keep the locals in line.

Go if you must, but in the final analysis, it's far cheaper and safer to get a local ho for a couple of hours. Get yourself a 400/hr hooker and be done with it.

Medellin though, I never considered that, too crowded, too poor, no beach, too dangerous, sure as heck would not try to meet someone after I got there.
