I'm a man who grew up without a dad.

It's awful. Don't put your son through it just for a job you might not even have in a few years.

Statistically, sons of single mothers are far far more likely to become criminals, drug abusers, suffer mental health issues etc quite a big margin. Those facts alone are very grim. I got to see the reality of that as me and many of my childhood friends were sons of single mums and we were a very unruly and violent (I'm not talking about tantrums I mean actual violence) bunch. The boys who had dads were like a different breed from us. Most of those childhood friends did succumb to alcoholism, drugs and crime.

From my perspective as a child it always made me feel very sad that I had no dad when other children did. I thought I must have done something wrong that I didn't get one. Even in your case it would be you moving away, your son will likely have similar thoughts since as children we really don't understand these things even if explained to us. Without a dad I missed out a lot of important growth. I never learned a lot of useful skills, never inherited useful knowledge nor did I get any guidance, like how to deal with male emotions, when I started growing into a man - this is not to sound demeaning but a woman can't replicate that in the same way a man can't with a daughter. You say that the father is a good dad so your son has a chance to grow up with a healthy male role model. Don't take that away from him. It's far more important than you think.

Think also about the dad. He didn't do anything wrong to the son. Does he really deserve to lose out on his son's entire childhood because you wanted monetary gain? How would you feel if he took your son hundreds of miles away and robbed you of your chance to be a mother. Even if the son reconnects with the dad as an adult..it won't be the same. The father by that point would be reduced to a family friend, not a father. I've seen men who've been distanced from their children like that and it kills them, sometimes literally. The pain can be so heavy that such men prefer to kill themselves than to keep feeling it.

This isn't an attack on yourself but a job isn't worth ruining two lives for no matter how much it pays
