She's making up the whole dream scenario, just to take her revenge against the man who gave her the mantra. I cannot say if the occultist truly said the mantra would save her son, or if it would only bring peace to both the mother and son. I wasn't there.
OR
If the dreams really are happening, that also would make sense. She must be so distraught from her loss, understandably so. It would be normal for anyone to perseverate over the days preceding the death of their son, ruminating feverishly about what else could have been done that might have saved him. It might be possible this rumination is what is generating the dreams about the occultist.
