I don't think there's anything that can be realistically done about race on dating, some people are racist and believe in stereotypes, you probably can't convidou them, and you shouldn't really want to. And the stats in OLD means that's probably much harder for you than in person. I'm not in grad school yet, but isn't just dating one of your colleges one of the easiest options

I hate questions like “why not arrange a marriage”? I’m more culturally western than Hindi so I wouldn’t gel well culturally. Same goes for “why don’t you go to India”?

Frankly you're marking off your probable best option for a pretty ambiguous reason - what is that you think you would get out of dating Western or Westernized women that you wouldn't get out of dating native Indian women? Working towards some compromise in tastes (maybe you have to watch more culturally conservative movies or Bollywood than you'd like, maybe she has to make an effort to be ok with you listening to Western music, expectations around sex etc) is probably easier than trying to fuck Western (white?) women.

I get the whole “acquire resources and wealth in order to have value” but I’ve seen dudes date without having to go through all these hurdles.

In reality being socially popular is by far the best chance you have of succeeding in the West, not playing betabucks (unless you think you'll be a millionaire in your 20's). You're still young and in grad school so push to take every opportunity to be social you have, getting in the right social circles is far more valuable when it comes to Western women than your job/education.
