Kind of similar to Ginny Weasley having feelings for Harry Potter but Harry only started to like her back many years later. I've also heard of real life cases similar to this where a guy only starts pursuing a girl he has known since many years ago after they've separated (due to graduating high school or whatever) and for some reason bumped into each other years later.
