I was with my buddies this past weekend. Four of us are in our 50s. All were married but me, and I am divorced. All are millionaires, and I would not change my place with any of them. Two are in loveless marriages, and they stayed with their wives for the children. One of those two talks about killing his wife openly.

Another's wife had cardiac arrest. CPR was given. EMTs came out. She was shocked once, nothing, twice nothing, and then the third time, and she came back. We joked, "You were one shock away from total freedom." He did not object. He just shook his head, gave an aw shucks movement, and grunted sadly. There was no objection, no fury that we were talking about his wife, "his best friend" dying. It is so sad that I remember a client of mine saying his life was better and his relationship with his daughter was better after his wife died.

The only guy who has a decent marriage has one in part because I counseled him. The wife had cheated on him, and he was going to start ragging on her and complaining. Well, I had done that after my ex was violent and I knew that was not going to work. I told her that you have to listen to all her bitching, let her give you all the reasons she cheated on you, and apologize for them. Then when it is all over, then you say, "But you did cheat on me, and you need to be punished for it." I told him that he would have one hour once a week where he could do or say anything to her as a punishment, and she went along with it. He told me later that was the best sex of his life.

And now it is my brother. His wife is doing the same stupid shit. With mine, she ragged on me when I laughed at a comedy or breathed. I thought I was alone, but nope, other men complained of the same thing. How do you bitch about someone's breathing? Now my brother is saying his wife is bitching about him going to the bathroom and how she cannot go.

Yeah, I get raising kids is no picnic. I get that men in the past men may have been cruel but there was a point to the Honeymooners and Ralph saying to this wife, "One of these days Alice to the moon."

So with your wife now I told my brother, "Do not go back. If the crazy bitch thinks you are the problem for all that ails your family, you step out and do not come back until she is on her hands and knees begging you to come back. She needs to feel the pain of being in a one parent family."

As for the kids, I said, "If that bitch wants to ruin her children's life by having them live in a one parent home, you do not stop her."

Do you know what the biggest epidemic I see today? It is divorced women in their 40s and 50s, embittered, drugged up on anxiety medication and anti-depressants, and alone because their kids hate them. The biggest lie they were ever told is you deserve better. How come no one ever says that to men?
