Is Singapore a good place to live as a Bachelor?

Good for you for thinking about this early. You remind me of myself when I was at your age, thinking about getting out of a high-tax state in the US and achieving financial independence.

I would break down your question into two parts:

Is Singapore the right place for you?
Is it the right time in your life to move there?

Disclaimer: I haven't lived in Singapore. I've visited Singapore twice and lived in Taiwan and China. I've done lots of research on expatriating to various Asian countries.

These two questions might be too much for you to reveal online, so don't feel obligated to answer them. Just something to think about:

Are you willing to give up your current citizenship for Singapore's, which doesn't allow dual citizenship?
What's your race/ethnicity? If you don't look Chinese/Malay/Indian you will stick out in public. Not sure how much that matters to you.

Military service is required for children of permanent residents but that won't be a problem if you choose to remain a bachelor. Naturalized citizens are exempt past a certain age I believe.

In my experience, whether or not you will face social pressure depends on whether the culture considers you a foreigner. I imagine that if you're not Chinese/Malay/Indian, you won't get that pressure from the respective ethnic community in Singapore.

I would search around on Reddit and Quora about life in Singapore for some of these answers.

Secondly, is it the right stage in your life to consider this move? You're in the sowing phase of your life, not the reaping phase. Career and income, not aesthetics and climate, should be your main considerations.

If you're currently in the USA (as I assume you are), consider Silicon Valley to start your STEM career, and then move abroad when you have 5-10 years of experience. Take this opportunity to stack cash as well. Singapore and other Asian countries do not have anywhere close to the same the income levels. You could even transfer within the same company if it has an office in Singapore or whatever other developed Asian country you prefer. And if you are at a higher level of experience, it will open up more job opportunities.

BLM/Antifa will generally not be a problem at this point if you stay in the suburbs. Lots of tech workers live in Silicon Valley, and the big tech corps will make sure that their workers will not be hassled. If things get really bad, you can always an apartment or even a room in someone's house in a Second Amendment-friendly state (rent will be low compared to your SV salary) and use it as a safe house to which to flee for when things do flare up in Silicon Valley. Worst case, find a big tech job in a place like Austin. Do this until you feel established enough in your career to start searching overseas.

There is very little chance to get citizenship, asians countries do not give those like candies. And people will not shame you for not heaving girlfriend, until you have money and house, your wishes are irrelevant. They will shame you for being poor and stupid.

I think Singapore is too much for you. If you can work remotely and want something similar, try Kuala Lumpur. In US maybe Florida.

if you haven't been there yet, do the basic reconnaissance first. that is my first advice to you.

second, if you're thinking about turning it into a place to live, stay there for 2 weeks first. if you cant tolerate two weeks there's no way you're going to tolerate anything longer.

do you have a job that will send you there? if not, get a job in a location that will maximize your income, save save save your money, and just take extended vacations to singapore until you can one day work remotely or retire there.

I did live in Singapore as a bachelor for a few years back in the 2000s and I was mostly single at the time. The Horror stories about Singaporean women being gold-diggers are mostly true, though I've seen it go the other way as well. A Portuguese friend ended up marrying a rich local gal and daddy paid for their condo and bought him into a Portuguese restaurant, so they're pretty comfortable now. He was a savage beast in terms of game though, so don't take that as the norm.

Singapore is a great place to live, but it can get boring after a while, there isn't much going on in terms of culture, it is tiny, hot and over-regulated. You'll want to get out of there most weekends, if I'm honest, but there are so many great places nearby, that shouldn't be an issue once Covid goes away.

Singapore is not in the least way collectivist, I don't know where you got that notion from. It is hyper-individualist and capitalist, with everybody out on their own and by and large, nobody cares about you, unless you can offer them something in terms of financial benefit. It's not a great place for socialising, you go there to make money and that's about it.

You haven't mentioned whether you plan to date, if you do, all the countries in Southeast Asia would be an excellent choice for that, you'll be spoilt rotten in terms of your choices, except for Singapore itself, of course.
