I never understood this fear of 'dying alone'. Like what does it actually mean? On the more literal side its the idea that you just won't happen to be single when you die. Do you really think it changes that much? What would it honestly make you feel? I mean if you're happy with life you won't really 'die happy', because you don't want to leave a good life behind, and if you're miserable it doesn't matter if you're single or not.

The truth is that there is no 'right' way to die. You can spend your whole life preparing for death and it may look like you got it all in order but as soon as you get sick your wife can run off, your friends can stop calling, and your kids can stop visiting.

My best friend died last year, he lived a long life and was surrounded by so many people that he couldn't actually accommodate seeing them all. We were funded entirely by people just giving us hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars to keep him at his home until he passed from the cancer, we even had a famous rock star just throw 5000 dollars at us to make it happen.

He never once bitched or moaned about dying 'alone' just because he wasn't in a romantic relationship, but he cried every day for fear of death and feeling like it wasn't fair and he didn't do enough and yadda yadda yadda.

The point is that death sucks no matter which way you split it, and if you're lucky its just going to be a few sad moments, days, weeks, or months, leading up to it after a lifetime of having fun. Being sad in those last minutes, being abandoned or just being alone in those final days doesn't undo all the good fun of life. It is, as they say, about the journey, not the destination.

This is a particularly warped version of 'Fear of Missing Out' and it's a real problem that has to be actively addressed.

Reframe the scenario and make a plan, here's something to get you started:

"I am going to plan to die at 50, which may involve wrestling a polar bear"
"I therefore have 25(etc) years to do whatever I want"
"The things I want right now are XYZ"
"The things I need to get or achieve for XYZ are ABC"
"The most important and far reaching of ABC is A"
"The thing I can do today to achieve A is Q"

FOMO is largely caused by 1. overexposure to possibilities and 2. no clear idea of what you want and what can be done to achieve it. Reflection is wonderful but only if it leads to gainful action. Mid 20s you should have an idea of what your best skills are and what they can accomplish, and conversely a good sketch of your limitations.

I'll confess to being a Jordan Peterson admirer and this is in a big way his whole 'schtick' . If you take XYZ as something of worth beyond your lifespan, say, causing the extinction of rats, the fear and noise of the world around you is drowned out by your clarity of purpose.

The fear of dying alone, I understand it. I’ve been in a relationship with a woman who was terminally ill. You want someone by your side in your last moments. Someone to hold your hand, and tell you everything will be ok, because you are about to die.

Most people feared the dentist as a child. Imagine when you were a child going to the dentist, and having your mom hold your hand. It doesn’t make the pain of the dentist pulling a tooth all that much better, but the fear itself is a little more manageable with someone by your side to go through it with you.

Op, this seems to be the ultimate loss we endure when going mgtow. In the end we are truly alone, just like we were born, like others have said. The difference is, as a baby being born you have no clue what’s going on because your brain hasn’t formed yet to understand what’s going on. The terror of being born I guess? But the terror of dying is the opposite, at least if you are on your deathbed, knowing that you are almost out of time. The fear of the unknown. The fear that the religion you identify with was right, and you may be going to hell or whatever. The only advice that I can give that conforms to mgtow as well would be to build some very solid friendships or be sure to have close family members. Or you can hope that you die suddenly, or in your sleep.

There is no purpose to life except that which you choose to give it.

Its OK to be existential or nihilistic about life, as long as you have a Marcus Aurelius side order of stoicism to go with it.

Leave the country. Theres no future for you here. I hear stories of people who cant walk away from the money, and then they waste it all
