Hey all,

I am considering separating from my wife. We have a daughter together, and she has 2 children from a previous marriage. Her first husband was not mandated to pay child support or alimony or anything of the sort, because he retains partial custody and because he doesn’t make very much money.

I, however, make significantly more money than my wife. I’m worried that, should we split, I’ll be on the hook for providing for her to keep her current standard of living - a large portion of which is paying for a house big enough for her and 3 kids, 2 of which aren’t mine.

Any thoughts on this? Am I an asshole for even asking?
