My STBX (35) and I (37) have verbally agreed divorce is the right thing for us, after 10 years of marriage and 14 years together. We are in Seattle, WA. So far, we remain friendly, and want that to remain the case because we have 3 children (5, 5, 3).

There is significant income discrepancy, and joint assets. I've come to terms with the fact that it will not be an even split, my attorney says likely 60/40 in her favor. I've come to terms with the high child support payment, used the online state provided calculator, and I want to do right by my kids. I have not come to terms with likely spousal support.

What is a challenge for me is that I have been very unhappy in my work, changed jobs, and we previously discussed me quitting and going back to school. In any new career, it's very likely I'll have a lower income. With my rent, child support, and likely spousal support, it's not likely I'll be able to afford to leave what's making me very unhappy.

While spousal support is not mandatory, my attorney says it's very likely. Is there a way to at least get a ball park estimate of what spousal support is likely going to be?

Has anyone else gone through something similar in WA?
