OP, because bad shit happens to group X regularly does not mean that bad shit happening to groups Y and Z is somehow a)not happening or b)automatically invalidated by said bad shit. There is, unfortunately, more than enough bad shit to go around.

And the worst shit doesn't magically make the more low-level, chronic shit more acceptable.

"Black men are being executed by American cops" doesn't mean men getting dead-bedroomed are somehow without complaint. It doesn't work like that. One is not related to the other.

I'll agree some men are only animals, and giving them a badge is a mistake.

But women aren't immune to abuse from the state.

Between you and the author of that article, the message I get is that there's nothing so horrific it can't be used as part of the oppression Olympics.

Which is terrifying. Because when we're reduced to keeping score, by counting the corpses, it means we don't have any practical solutions.

Now, it can be argue what is an "oppressive reason" which is nebulous, so I went with the concrete qualifier of poverty, since poverty and oppression tend to go hand in hand.
