This is 1/2 progress, as at least the comments said NTA and that it was a mental issue with the mother, but the fact that the mother did this is why I'm posting this in the first place. Also, for those of you that think this is fake, even if it was fake, which is possible, people actually believe this stuff because that's how feminism works.
Unfortunately, even when AITA seems relatively sane, it's usually for the wrong reasons. Look at the thread again. People are voting NTA because the mother put him in a lose-lose situation. But make no mistake. Those same people absolutely view gender preferences as sexist. If you would be happy with a child of either gender, but you would rather one over the other, AITA considers that horribly sexist.
There was a post a couple of months ago, where OP was a husband and father to a handful of daughters. I think he said he had 3 or 4 daughters and no sons. He asked a doctor if there were any ways to influence the gender of a child. Things like when to have sex during ovulation, or position of sex. The doctor said there are a few things they can try. That was the essence of the story, and AITA slaughtered him for being a misogynist. They claimed that him having a preference for a son was clearly rooted in his perception of boys as more desirable than girls. People completely ignored the part where he already has 3-4 daughters and no boys. It's pretty fucking normal to want at least one of each. I'm pretty sure most parents who have 3-4 of one gender would at least subconsciously hope for the other gender in their next child, just for the variety and experience. This poor bastard is a man in a house filled with only girls, and he just wants a boy to connect with when it comes to boy things. And AITA attacks him for being a misogynist.
Never underestimate how stupid people on AITA. Just about every time I find myself agreeing with the votes in a thread, there's some ridiculous reason bringing them to the same overall stance as me. It baits me time and time again. "Oh hey, they are being sane for once!" And then I read their justification, and nope.
Well, the temporary solution for that, at least for now is to swap the genders. If you swap the genders and play as a female, then they think "Innocent until proven guilty." but the opposite if you say you are a male. It really is sad you have to swap genders just so stupid people won't be stupid... also, so far I have never seen an AITA where a female was the AH and it was against a male. Only female AH are the ones against females, but not against males, at least in my experience.
I've definitely seen posts where they voted a woman as being in the wrong, and a man as being in the right. But you are correct that such posts are the minority. They give women a huge benefit of the doubt in basically any situation. If they can twist the facts and make assumptions which lead to a story where the woman can be defended, then they will do that. And even if they can't, they tend to fall back on "she has mental issues", as if that defends against bad actions. So I'm with you on that trend.
One trend I've noticed as well are situations where the conflict is between two women, yet AITA will isolate a man who is tangentially related, claiming that he is the only asshole in the story, and that these two women who are in conflict with each other, are both victims of that one man. That trend is pretty appalling. As usual, it's a problem for both genders. It paints men as evil and wrong in every situation. And it paints women as children, such that two women fighting both lack agency, and are only fighting because the nearest man has somehow forced them into that situation. It's just shitty all around, and it's a result of people refusing to hold women accountable.
Yeah, for example they always assume a man's role and a woman's role. For example, once I saw an AITA post where they assumed the woman was the worker in the family, did everything, and was the boss. And the husband was just another of their kids who played video games all day. They said to throw away the husband's console which idk that just really bothers me. It's not because it is a console, it's actually because of the price. So a very expensive item would be thrown away because they assume it belongs to the woman and she has the right to throw it away.
It reminds me of so many conflicts in tv shows/movies/stories occasionally real life, etc. And the man and the woman get married and the woman always threatens to take away something the man owns. For example, shutting down a company because she actually has the ability to-it's insane! Yet think of all the other things men have to pay without them being a part of it, they can't shut that down, and if they tried, well they just wouldn't let him.
There's nothing to discuss. Nothing to rationalize. Nothing to explain away.
You're mother was blatantly of of line by weaponizing your childhood against you. This is a significant character flaw and you are absolutely entitled to an apology, though she likely doesn't have to capacity for such a thing.
I'm a gay male. I've had to come to terms with the likely reality that I will actually have a child one day. When that happens, it's going to be a boy. Call me sexist so you want, but there's no way I'm going to spend my adult life raising a girl. Those things drive me crazy, and I'd rather not have children than have a daughter.
To balance out the equation, I once knew a woman (very privileged) who had three adult sons. All good men. She confided once that she hated the idea of having daughters.

I've got many stories of shitty AITA posts.

But what will happen if your partner, who let’s assume you have a partner that you love very much, wants a daughter?

That's a hard boundary for me.
