And yet official measures of gender inequality (by the UN and WEF) right off lower male life expectancy as simply being “natural”. So gender parity is reached if women outlive men by 5 years.

Officially men and women having equal life expectancy is unfair to women (seriously)

The UN openly says that sociological factors and health care are why women live longer. It has nothing to do with being 'natural'.

In their Gender Inequality Reports, the UN considers women outliving men to be “natural”, and that gender equality is set at women living 5 years longer. A smaller gap is considered unfair to women. Even if it were natural, the correct attitude would be to expect a society to make a consorted effort to help men... like they do with maternal childbirth mortality rate (which actually is due to nature), instead of throwing their arms up, saying, “well that’s just what nature decided”.

That article is not the UN. It’s one research team for the WHO, talking to one reporter about their study (that contradicts the UN’s claim regarding life expectancy). The fact that its published in the UN News, doesnt make it the UN’s position on the subject. And women outliving men is nothing “new” as the reporter claims. It’s been known for years. While the article gives reasons for this, it mostly says a it’s due to men’s choices, which I don’t doubt is a factor, but it doesn’t mention the the majority of health funding goes to women, that the UN was a “women first policy” when it comes to humanitarian medical aid, as well as only giving food to women, under the assumption they will share it with their families. So what happens to single men? And why does the UN assume sharing food with ones family is a female behavior? It does seem to imply that the UN thinks men will just horde the food for themselves, so it’s best not to give them any.

Males fair worse than females on many health outcomes, but more attention, particularly at a national level, is given to women’s issues. This apparent paradox might be explained by gamma bias or a similar gender bias construct. Such potential biases require exploration. The purpose of the current paper is to present six streams of evidence that illustrate a bias against men’s issues within the United Nations (UN) and World Health Organization (WHO). First, the UN’s sustainable development goal on ‘gender equality’ is exclusive to females. Second, the UN observes nine International Days for women’s issues/achievements and one day for men’s issues/achievements. Third, the UN operates 69 Twitter accounts dedicated to women’s issues, culminating in 328,251 tweets since 2008. The UN does not operate a Twitter account for men’s issues. Fourth, female words (e.g., ‘women’) appear more frequently than male words (e.g., ‘men’) in documents archived in the UN and WHO databases, indicating more attention to women’s issues. Fifth, in WHO reports where similar use of male and female words might be expected (e.g., gender and health reports), female words appear more frequently. Sixth, more female than male words appear in the Bulletin of the World Health Organization, with articles on women’s health morefrequently non-original research (e.g., editorials). Overall, because the UN and WHO are the causal agents directly responsible for the outcomes assessed, the findings reveal a bias against men’s issues within these organisations. The findings support the construct of gamma bias. Ways to reduce this bias are discussed.
